A rather quick and sketchy drawing of my persona. I didn’t really put a whole lot of thought into it, but it was enough to get me back into the groove of drawing again. I thought I enjoyed that hourly exercise. Maybe my next drawing would be better.

I submitted a screenshot to the Guild Wars 2 screenshot contest. This is of my character on the beta, “Fleeting Flash”, a Sylvari Guardian. I think I like how the screenshot turned out. I like how there’s still some light that shines through despite the amount of plant life surrounding the image.

I wasn’t just going to draw any ordinary shotgun so I scrummage around Google to find a scene that involved a shotgun. The reference looked interesting so I had to draw it. The only thing I removed was the eye patch the girl had, and change the girl’s hair color.

After the game ended, I was told this was from a scene in a 1974 Swedish movie called “Thriller”.

It’s amazing the kind of stuff you can find out later on from other players.

For this drawing, I was told to draw Chewbacca at the races. I spent the first two minutes trying to figure out what kind of car Chewie should drive. Eventually, I ended up with the General Lee Charger from Dukes of Hazard.

The prompt for this drawing called for TARDIS to appear “somewhere else”. I chose Gran Pulse from Final Fantasy XIII.

I didn’t expect the average Drawception player to recognize the scenery, but I could see how the Adamantoise in the drawing could be easily mistaken as an AT-AT walker from Star Wars.

A learning experience-- from traditional to digital.

I spent a day or so trying to get myself comfortable in drawing on the digital medium, something I’ve been trying to get into but I somehow found it frustrating when it comes to drawing people (maybe not so when drawing landscapes but I haven’t got to that). I guess that explains why a lot of my Drawceptions that feature people are mostly from the waist up.

Then it hit me! I just realized that I might find it easier if the monitor was oriented in a way that it could look like my sketchpad, which I often place vertically. In this case, in a Portrait orientation instead of the typical Landscape orientation.

So, I rotated my monitor so it stands vertically instead of horizontally. I think I’m satisfied, but it’s leaning against the wall instead of propped on a stand— it was a bit too far from my eyes and somewhat uncomfortable after a while, but it was an improvement over what I was dealing with before.

I ordered one of these from Amazon. Not only it would make it easier to rotate my monitor, but I could probably adjust it so that my monitor could be much closer to my face.

I suppose the next step is to buy a tablet that has a drawing space ratio of 16:9 (or close to it), just like my monitor, but that would have to wait. I think I can settle with my 8x6 inch Wacom Intuos3 for a little bit longer.
